Story
As a child, Jane Hall helped her mother Karen Lewis escape from her obsessively controlling father. However, they were separated due to her grandfather's interference. Years later, they reunite, but Karen, now remarried, does not recognize Jane as her daughter. Jane, who was raised by Ms. Hall, takes a tutoring job for Patrick Jenkins, her half-brother, to pay for Ms. Hall's medical bills. However, misunderstandings between Jane and Karen deepen due to Patrick's pranks. After knowing that Karen never forgot her, Jane decides to tell her the truth. But by then, Karen already believes Emma Lowe—who accidentally picks up the keepsake Jane's dropped—is her long-lost daughter. Diagnosed with a terminal hereditary tumor, Jane chooses not to reveal her identity to spare Karen the pain of losing her daughter twice and weaves a benevolent lie for her.
