Story

After an earthquake, Lucy is trapped under rubble with her dying mother, who feeds her “brown sugar water”—her own blood. Through a cracked phone, Lucy hears her father, Victor, coldly order rescuers to save Stella first, leaving Irene behind because “she’s tough as nails.” When Lucy is pulled out, Victor hugs her theatrically, but she smells another woman’s perfume. She looks at her dead mother and whispers, “Why did you tell them to leave Mommy behind?” Victor freezes in terror.
